A non-judgmental approach to learn about racism

Understanding the history of English Race Relations in the United Kingdom will help us better understand the nature of systemic racism and the negative impact it has on Black and Brown individuals. Knowledge gives you the power to make decisions that will positively affect our future. Change can happen at a micro level. Everyone can and should be doing their part.

• But it’s overwhelming

• It’s hard to face

• It’s uncomfortable

• It feels like it’s not relevant to you

• And it’s not without its complexities around a lack of understanding

Educating yourself and others to be actively anti-racism is key to reach the equity everyone deserves. As difficult as it is for people to learn these hard truths mentioned in the course we do ensure psychological safety and time to reflect and digest the information as well assigning support buddies in case anyone is triggered and needs time-out.

As a white facilitator of the Race Ahead course, I proudly stand as an ally in the fight against racism. I firmly believe that addressing racial inequality is a collective challenge that transcends racial boundaries; it’s not solely a concern for the black community, but a matter of shared interest and responsibility for everyone.
